Discover Speyside
The River Spey begins its journey in the Monadhliath Mountains close to Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland and ends at Spey Bay on the Moray Firth between Inverness and Aberdeen.
As the river flows North beyond the Cairngorm Mountains the river valley and surrounding area is known as Speyside.
The landscape is varied; green and rugged in places while developing a lower profile as the river winds it’s way to the coast. This variety of mountain, hill, river, valley and coastal land lends itself to a range of activities to enjoy on your visit to Speyside – and also to the production of Speyside’s most famous export – malt whisky!
Walking/Cycling
Stepping out of Copper Cottage you can enjoy local walking and cycling on quiet roads and tracks, including a scenic walk down to the River Spey.
Cross the Victoria footbridge and you can explore Aberlour, or join the Speyside Way. As one of the Great Trails of Scotland, the Speyside Way can be tackled in sections, or just enjoy the local sections heading North or South out of Aberlour to other local points of interest.
Or, try a hike up our local mountain, Ben Rinnes (841m) or its smaller neighbour Ben Aigan (471m).
Slightly further afield, there are plentiful forestry walks, trails in the Glenlivet estate and the Moray Coastal Path, where you can enjoy coastal walks and hospitality.
For those seeking the higher air of Munro’s or Winter sports, we are only one hour away from the Cairngorm National Park.

But in Speyside you’re never that far from your favourite dram. Slainte!
